He stepped forward, slow, deliberate. She backed up without thinking, and in seconds her shoulders hit the wall. He hadn't even raised his voice, hadn't laid a hand on her - and yet she was cornered, trembling under the sheer weight of him.

"You really are tiny." AJ murmured, his voice dropping dangerously low. His gaze swept over, unhurried, unflinching. "Shy. And you think that makes you forgettable."

"I-I don't mean to-"

"Don't apologize." The sharpness in his tone cut through her excuse. He leaned down, close enough that his breath brushed her cheek, close enough that his warmth wrapped around her like a cage. "You don't realize what you do to people, do you? You walk around here acting like a rookie that one sees.. but you've got my attention."

Her lips parted, but no sound came out. His gaze dipped, just for a second, to her lips, before looking at her wide eyes again. His hands twitched at his side, like he was stopping himself from reaching out towards her.

The silence stretched, heavy, electric, until her chest ached from holding her breath.

Finally, AJ straightened, though his presence didn't ease. "You're not forgettable." He said, his voice deep, absolute. "And don't make me repeat myself."

Then he walked past, his shoulder brushing hers as he left her trembling against the wall, her whole body buzzing with truth.
