(Based on a True Story)

In the late 1970s, in the quiet, pine-framed towns of Mississippi, there lived a young woman named Mary Ann Summers. She was once known as "The Rainy Day Singer," a bright, hopeful girl whose voice carried through small-town radio stations and hearts alike. But after a tragic accident left her paralyzed, the world she'd known became something entirely different.

Yet Mary's story did not end there.

Told through the words of her own diary, rediscovered years later nearly reclaimed by the earth. The Rainy Day Singer gives us an intimate glimpse into a single year of her life in 1978. It was a year of laughter and heartbreak, of CB radios and country roads, of college football, friendship, music, and quiet courage.

Ayanna Brooks been the responsible one her whole life. While her siblings chased the streets, she was clockin' double shifts, raisin' her little brother, and keepin' the lights on. When her mama's accident hit, Ayanna packed her dreams away-two years gone, survival on repeat. The "perfect daughter." The one who don't mess up. But now? It's finally her turn. First in her family to leave Atlanta, she steps onto Xavier University's campus with a scholarship, a suitcase, and a plan: law school dreams, no distractions, no slip-ups. Only thing is...the Big Easy don't play fair. Financial aid duckin' her calls. Her part-time job wreckin' her sleep. Her family back home still pullin' at her every move. And then there's him. Kahlil Carter. Frat boy. Legacy money. Smooth enough to make the Yard freeze mid-step. When his eyes find hers? Ayanna feels something she didn't even know she was missing-seen, wanted, alive. But his world-fast parties, secrets, that kind of dangerous pleasure-burns quick. One wrong step, and Ayanna could lose more than her focus. Still, Ayanna's not that girl. She's never been in love. Never let anybody touch her body like that. And she ain't about to hand herself over easy. But the pull between them? It's slow burn. Messy. The kind of heat that only gets louder the more she tries to ignore it. In the middle of all that chaos, there's one place that feels like hers: the art studio. That elective she thought was just a filler credit? It's the only space where her heart runs free. With a brush in her hand, Ayanna finds a voice she didn't know she had-one that might change everything she thought she wanted. Messy. Funny. Heart-heavy. First Year Blues kicks off The Becoming Series-a Southern college story about family, first love, temptation, and the courage it takes to choose yourself. Because in the N.O.? Everything hits different.

"3 days more, I'll b back, luv. We'll talk then." I'd been reading his text message over and over again. But it had been almost two weeks now and I hadn't heard back from him. The waiting time was starting to feel like an eternity, and it's now making me wonder... Will he really come back to me? I missed him terribly! Unspoken words. Soundless tears. Selfish emotions. Pride. And the feelings I should have recognized. These were lessons I used to ignore. Until Cliff came into my life. Bit by bit, he changed something within me. Like a gentle rainfall, he turned my harsh, uncaring winter into a nurturing, blossoming spring. If you have time to spare, please, sit awhile with me. Let me tell you about how I learned the greatest, most unforgettable lesson of my life. This is a novel inspired by a true story about the biggest lesson one has ever learned from love. Will the experience shatter you or make you whole? You be the judge! ________________________ "Never has a romance novel been so grounded in reality and morals. I can remember the fear of the tree falling in front of my car, after it was struck by lightning. I can remember how it felt, cold rain on a summer afternoon pounded on my skin as I stepped out of my car. I was headed home to my parents house after graduating college. I remember the security I felt when he showed up, and told me everything would be okay, and to stay in my car. I remember the rain stopping and him getting to work removing the tree. I remember when his gray eyes looked into my green ones, as he woke me up to tell me it was clear. I remember my heart never beat the same after him.
