(Based on a True Story) In the late 1970s, in the quiet, pine-framed towns of Mississippi, there lived a young woman named Mary Ann Summers. She was once known as "The Rainy Day Singer," a bright, hopeful girl whose voice carried through small-town radio stations and hearts alike. But after a tragic accident left her paralyzed, the world she'd known became something entirely different. Yet Mary's story did not end there. Told through the words of her own diary, rediscovered years later nearly reclaimed by the earth. The Rainy Day Singer gives us an intimate glimpse into a single year of her life in 1978. It was a year of laughter and heartbreak, of CB radios and country roads, of college football, friendship, music, and quiet courage.

Passing by, Nicole broke down in her pickup, smoke billowing from under the hood. She stood in the rain, desperately trying to figure out what was wrong with the old truck. Waving her hands to the headlights that were coming her way, she never thought it would be her enemy of all people."
