Daniel Boyce was attending his maternal grandparents funeral. Almost nine years earlier, he attended his mother's funeral and was taken in by his maternal grandparents also was put to work on the family ranch. The Diamond D Boyce Ranch. Branded two years in. A reward his grandpa called it. He went back to the homestead and was looking at the house when his uncle came up and told him the truth about his father John Dutton. So he packed everything he had up and headed to Montana. To the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. Upon arrival he approaches the Dutton's as the men (Lee, Kayce, Jamie, his father John, and Kayce's son Dan's nephew Tate) are preparing for a fishing weekend. Dan introduces himself and deals with the sideways glances from everyone including Beth, his half sister. After explaining why he's there. John told him to report to Rip, and do whatever he asks. Eventually, Kayce starts thinking Dan's there to replace him on the ranch and with the family.
