"Travelers?" the taller one asked.
Kael lifted their hands. "Survivors."
"From where?"
"Sector Twelve."
The man looked at them for a long moment, eyes scanning each face - Lira's, Ren's, the others'. Finally, he motioned for the gate to open.
"Welcome to the Zone," he said. "You'll be safe here - for now."
Two kids chose to rebel and become part of the new world. The Overseers are after them, strangers want them, and they just want freedom from everything.

"We are never getting out of here are we," I said to my best friend without the slightest bit of hope. "Come on, Teddy. Don't think like that," he says trying to reassure me.
