A young man finds himself feeling as though he has wasted his life living in a small town in novia scotia, Canada, by spending his time smoking weed and playing video games on his computer, in his childhood bedroom. His 'call to action' is when his grandfather, who lives in Norway, passes away and the young man and his mother travel to attend his funeral, and soon after finding out that his grandfather had left his fishing boat to him in his will.
His mother encourages him to take the opportunity to try staying for a few months, utilizing the vessel for that which it was intended to be used. After some hesitation, he agrees to stay in Norway on a trial bases for 3 months, during which he finds himself; facing the struggles of a commercial fisherman, he faces tough market prices for his catches which are rarely fruitful, all the while battling both the brutality of the Barents Sea and the fierce competition from the local fisherman. This is a story about a young man who feels useless, finding purpose in an old man's world amongst much affliction.

The story follows 4 housemates living in the county of Mandelshire, which had been struck by a strange tuberculosis outbreak, symptoms much different than the average tuberculosis case. Patients had started acting on impulse, moving restlessly-uncontrollably. Major alterations greatly impact their personalities, as if an entirely new soul had overthrown them of their own consciousness, commanding their minds.
