The Lion's Weakness

A one-shot story of a Lion, who is different from others finding acceptance from within. The journey is filled with humour, grief, shame and finally love.

One day, in the heat of summer, a Lion roamed in his cave's entrance. He was waiting impatiently for the arrival of his friend so that they could go hunting together.

A chill ran through his mane, as he remembered his Lioness's angry words at him this morning.

"If no meat is on our cave's stone by evening, I will carve your body and make it food for our children." The Lioness had raised her paws at him and roared. "Meat is meat. At least you would have been useful to your family that way."

The time was running for his survival and the Lion was scared for his life.

Because he knew firsthand how much the Lioness is capable of violence.

As a Lion himself, he shouldn't have to fear her, but for that he had to have some experience in killing. Or fighting other Lions.

He had none whatsoever.
