His gaze pinned her in place, sharp and deliberate, like he was stripping away every layer of resistance she had left. It slid from the tremor in her eyes to the part of her lips, lingering there as though he could already taste her hesitation. He moved closer, unhurried, every step heavy with intent. The air thickened-too close, too quiet. When his fingers brushed her chin, tilting it upward, the touch was deceptively gentle... but it carried a warning. Her pulse stuttered beneath his touch, trapped somewhere between fear and something dangerously close to want. His voice came next-low, unyielding, a murmur that felt more like a command than a request. It sank into her, dark and electric. "Be my kitten." The words coiled around her like a threat wrapped in silk. For a moment, she forgot to breathe. Her throat tightened as her voice broke through, shaky and small, "What?"

After a pause, Serena spoke again, her voice gentler. "I noticed the room I was assigned is... right next to yours." His fork paused mid-air. "I was wondering if that could be changed," she continued quickly. "It's a beautiful room, don't get me wrong. But I don't want the rest of the staff thinking I'm being... favored. It wouldn't be fair to them." Sylus's gaze rose to meet hers. And this time, he didn't look away. "My staff is chosen carefully," he said, his voice firmer now. "They are professionals. No one will question your position. And if anyone crosses a line-" He leaned in slightly, his stare cool but edged with something heavier. "-I will take care of it. Personally." The finality in his tone silenced her. It wasn't threatening - it was protective. And somehow, that was more disarming than if he'd raised his voice. There was no negotiation in his words. No room to move.
