Sam's first day as a dispatch intern at the City Hero Command Center should be exciting. She's finally escaped tech support hell to become the voice in a hero's ear, coordinating the city's premier superhero team through crises and chaos.

What she didn't sign up for? A broken team still nursing wounds from a situation three months ago that nobody wants to discuss. A temperamental fire hero who treats everyone like a punching bag. And Robert Robertson, her intimidatingly competent trainer who also moonlights as the armored hero Mecha Man and clearly has complicated history with half the team.

Robert is stoic, overworked, and annoyingly attractive. He's also her boss, which means her inconvenient crush needs to stay buried under professional boundaries and dispatch protocols. 

Then mysterious interference signals start disrupting hero communications across the city. Someone is testing their systems, probing for weaknesses, and the tension between Robert and reformed villain Invisigal isn't helping team coordination.
