The house was dim and quiet, the storm outside swallowing every sound. Johnny knew this place like a dream he'd walked through once before - marble floors, long hallways, family portraits that seemed to watch his every move.

He reached the base of the staircase and froze. A light glowed faintly from upstairs - Olivia's room.
He took the steps two at a time.

When Olivia heard the faint creak of her door, she thought it was Frank again. "Frank?" she whispered, heart skipping.

"Are you insane? My father-"

"What?"

"Frank." His words hit like thunder. "I needed to know if it's him you want now."

Olivia's throat tightened. "Johnny, please-"

He took another step, close enough that she could smell the rain on him, the whiskey still lingering on his breath. "Just tell me the truth, Liv. Do you love him?"
