What if a "good girl" from the church pews of Georgia, a "lovebug" who spent her whole life conforming, finally gets her heart shattered by the perfect "Preacher's Son" she was supposed to marry? What if that ultimate betrayal doesn't just break her... what if it uncages her? What if she packs her bags, leaves her old life in the dust, and runs to New York City for a clean slate, desperate to find the "big life" she's always been missing? ...But what if that "clean slate" lands her in the one place she doesn't belong? What if she walks straight out of a world of suffocating, holy control and right into the heart of a powerful, dangerous, and loyal-to-the-death family empire in The Bronx? What if the "Boss" of that empire-an undisputed, cold-as-ice champion who buries his own trauma under a mask of pure authority-sees something in her that no one else does? What if the woman who just wants to heal finds herself falling for a man who is all sharp edges and high stakes? And what if her "softness" is the only thing that can disarm his "coldness"? In a fortress built on secrets, loyalty, and legacy, what if the biggest risk isn't the "blood feuds" or the business rivals... but the love that could either make him, or destroy them both? What if the "treacherous heart" she has to learn... is his?

Valeria didn't rush. She never did. Inez was pinned beneath her, wrist locked overhead, the hold precise and impersonal. Not pain. Control. Inez scoffed anyway. "That's it?" she sneered. "I've had tutors scarier than you." Valeria said nothing. The silence pressed in. "You don't scare me," Inez added, louder. Brattier. "You just-" "Enough." One word. Flat. Final. Valeria lifted Inez's chin with two fingers, detached as a correction. "Look at me," she said coolly. "If you're going to embarrass yourself, do it properly." Inez laughed, brittle. "You think this makes you powerful?" "I don't think," Valeria replied. "I decide." Her gaze never wavered. "You provoke because it's the last control you have." "I don't belong to you," Inez snapped. Valeria leaned in, voice razor-thin. "You are my wife. You belong to consequences." She released her grip. "Say it." "No." Valeria waited. The quiet broke Inez, she hated being ignored. "...I'll behave, I'll be a good girl" Inez muttered. "Specify." Inez swallowed hard. "...I'll be your good girl" Valeria stepped back, already distant. "Good," she said. "Remember why." #1 older women-13th February (FAST PACE BOOK)
