During the battle on the Great Naruto Bridge, Sasuke Uchiha throws Naruto into Haku’s attack, using him as a human shield. Though he miraculously survives, the truth cuts deeper than any blade: Sasuke’s betrayal is celebrated, Kakashi turns a blind eye, and Naruto realizes he’s not a teammate — he’s a tool.

Running from his pain, Naruto finds himself drawn to an ancient beachside shrine, where a crimson stone slab bears a sword driven through its heart and an oni mask hanging from its hilt. The red spiral carved into the handle calls to his blood — to the Uzumaki within. When Naruto grasps the blade, the world shatters.

Encased in a crystal of living crimson energy, his body and mind are rewritten — knowledge, instincts, and memories not his own flood him, aging his form and sharpening his spirit. When Team 7 next sees him, two weeks before the Chūnin Exams, they are confronted not with the loud, clumsy boy they once knew, but a silent, black-haired warrior with cold eyes and a blade on his back.
