An End to Begin a New

Izuku stands at the ceremonial spot sacrifices to the underworld stood on before their lives were taken to bring the jungle rain. He wasn't supposed to be there either. His family had been blessed by the forest god generations ago, given to the Mayan as a gift, now here he was being sacrificed for his "failure" to grow new trees for the Kings men to cut down to make that dumb plaster the covered every square inch of the royal city, which is what brought him here.

The King thrusts the knife through Izuku's gut from behind and he's pushed into the cenote.

Izuku hits the water, pain is all he can feel. The pain of water flooding his nose and mouth, and the building pressure as he sinks further. His stab wound only made everything a million times worse.

That's when a voice came from inside his head.

/This isn't the end, Izuku, not be a long shot./

The next thing he knew he was surrounded by a blinding golden light and the pain was gone, and so were his legs.

Izuku gets turned into a merman by the Mayan Gods and meets Merman Katsuki and they fall in love. Izuku's a pining fool, and Katsuki fights him every step of the way.
