Three and a half years after losing her husband, Maggie Parker has learned how to keep moving - one mile, one memory, one quiet morning at a time. Running used to be her joy; now it's her refuge, the only place she can still hear her heartbeat. When she considers joining a local training group to prepare for a race, she meets Matt Marino - younger, confident, and disarmingly kind. He runs like the world belongs to him, and somehow, when he looks at Maggie, she starts to believe it could belong to her too. What begins as friendship and flirty pursuit-shared miles and sidelong smiles-quickly builds into something that stirs every part of her she thought had gone still. But opening her heart again means facing the grief she's outrun for too long...and daring to love someone who challenges everything she thought she wanted. As the race approaches, Maggie must decide if she's brave enough to step into a future that's faster, freer, and far more uncertain than the past she left behind. Because sometimes, the finish line isn't the end, it's where you find your second wind. Note: This is Book #1 in the Next Chapter series. If you want to read more about the Parker women, Book #2 is titled Fresh Start and is about Maggie's older daughter, Claire. Book #3 (coming soon) is titled The Space Between and is about Maggie's younger daughter, Katie.

Jeanette Arthur had no idea what was going to happen to her when they opened the doors. Was she going to die? Or would she wish she was dead? She began to think that this kind of thing didn't happen to people like her, but she realized how wrong she was. This became her story's end the night she picked up those drinks. When she let herself step into that building, when she accepted that job and put on those clothes. They had made her believe she was important. Special. Worth loving. She had thought all these people wanted her, but they only wanted the lie she was selling. She knew this was no longer pretend. She was no longer in control, and she was no longer the one selling herself. She wanted someone to rewrite her story. So for the first time in her life, she raised up her hands, and she started to pray.
