14 year old Hazel Louis is horse crazy, and living on the family ranch makes it easier to see her horses. Sadly, her loved horse Nora died recently. Hazel thinks she isn't ready for a new horse, in fact she doesn't think she can ever have a new horse as special as Nora, and those feelings don't change when she meets Ava, a troubled and abused horse who doesn't like humans, but when circumstances bring her to be forced to fix Ava, she learns that maybe everything happens for a reason.
