In 1985 South Central, Los Angeles, 12 year old Amara watched the destruction of her neighborhood. Kids disappearing, families torn apart, and strange wooden creates appearing in different locations night after night. When her older brother investigates one of the crates and spirals into madness, things begin to unravel for Amara. As the crack epidemic sweeps through Black communities like wildfire, Amara discovers that what the crates carried wasn't drugs anymore but rather something ancient, dark, and deliberate. Something engineered to cause chaos. Forced to flee, Amara disappears into the shadow of time, transformed into something not human, not supernatural, but in between. In a war no one believes is real, a war buried beneath the crates, Amara is faced with the choice to fight or succumb; and the only one who can help her is the man who helped weaponize it
