When the alien ships appeared, they didn't destroy cities or enslave humanity. They just hovered for two days and vanished. The real apocalypse started after they left-when the lights died, the machines rusted, and everything we depended on turned to junk.

Now the world belongs to the ones everyone used to underestimate.
Mara - her wheelchair's a tank now, crossbow mounted and ready. Call her "inspirational" and she'll show you how sharp sarcasm and steel can be.

Theo - autistic and brilliant. Remembers every road, every safe house, every way out. The apocalypse finally gave him the quiet he always wanted.

Rae - blind since birth, but she hears raiders before they even breathe wrong. Her cane's sharp, and her instincts sharper.

Danny - chronic pain, bad back, miracle mechanic. If it's broken, he can fix it. Probably while swearing.

Lila - anxious, twitchy, always watching. Turns out, paranoia makes one hell of a lookout.

When they find a piece of alien tech still alive and humming, they think it might keep them going.
Instead, it might wake up something that never left

The war had ended. Nations rose from ash, but the scars ran deep through the soil, the air, and the blood. The strong had grown weary. The weak had multiplied. The human body, once the symbol of endurance, had lost the title of "the indomitable human spirit." Minds broke more easily. Soldiers fell faster. And beneath the looming shadow of the Cold War, that weakness became unacceptable. A sickness they called weakness spread, some said it was in the water, others blamed the Americans, the air, even fate itself. One truth remained: the human body was no longer enough to survive. Many refused to accept it. They would sooner go extinct than admit they were no longer the "superior beings" they once believed themselves to be. But one man could not accept it. In a forgotten corner of Moscow, behind layers of concrete, a vision was born not from hope, but desperation. The Americans had weapons the world had never seen; nuclear arsenals that could erase cities in a single breath. The Soviets could not afford to fall behind. If they could not win through machines and missiles, they would win through biology. Even if it meant tearing families apart. Even if it meant rewriting what it meant to be human. Their goal was simple: to create a new generation, stronger, faster, immune to the limitations of the ordinary human body. Children would become soldiers before they could even walk. Minds and bodies sharpened for war. A new world would rise from the ashes of the old, an unbroken nation, one where no foreign foot would dare step. For a moment, all hope was lost. That was until Subject 01A. - ? ? ? "Is it wrong to want to live?" ? ? ? "It's WRONG to torture people for a stupid fantasy!" ? ? ?"Fantasy? Subject 01A doesn't look like a fantasy now, does he?" "You can't tell me there isn't something here worth risking everything for." [New Adult Apocalyptic Romance] Summary: There are some things that you can't outrun. That becomes all the more obvious when the world is ending, when there's nothing left but the feral creatures that were once people, consumed now by a virus that's made them cannibalistic and ravenous. It might just be easier to end it all, but Claire still has one last thing to fight for. Her younger sister. And she intends to keep her safe, no matter the cost. So, with no other options and her sister in tow, Claire ventures out into the dangers of this new, unforgiving world in search of safety, security, and answers to some long burning questions. The first two things -along with some new, unexpected questions- she finds in an unlikely place: a stranger who she's become indebted to. She has a feeling he can help her answer all her questions, if she can allow herself to fully trust him. Trust, she thinks, is a fragile thing. Humanity, a construct. Love, a weakness. But these are the thoughts of a survivor, and she's beginning to wonder if surviving is all she wants. Maybe she wants to live.
