When the alien ships appeared, they didn't destroy cities or enslave humanity. They just hovered for two days and vanished. The real apocalypse started after they left-when the lights died, the machines rusted, and everything we depended on turned to junk. Now the world belongs to the ones everyone used to underestimate. Mara - her wheelchair's a tank now, crossbow mounted and ready. Call her "inspirational" and she'll show you how sharp sarcasm and steel can be. Theo - autistic and brilliant. Remembers every road, every safe house, every way out. The apocalypse finally gave him the quiet he always wanted. Rae - blind since birth, but she hears raiders before they even breathe wrong. Her cane's sharp, and her instincts sharper. Danny - chronic pain, bad back, miracle mechanic. If it's broken, he can fix it. Probably while swearing. Lila - anxious, twitchy, always watching. Turns out, paranoia makes one hell of a lookout. When they find a piece of alien tech still alive and humming, they think it might keep them going. Instead, it might wake up something that never left

"It really seems to me that in midst of great tragedy, there is always the horrible possibility that something terribly funny will happen." Philip K. Dick "I'd rather have a heart of gold Than all the treasure of the world." Ana Claudia Antunes "Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall into an open sewer and die." Mel Brooks Beware of Drago Worm because... AFRICAN PROVERB: THE CHILD WHO IS NOT EMBRACED BY THE VILLAGE WILL BURN IT DOWN TO FEEL ITS WARMTH Josephine Hart: "Damaged people are dangerous. They know they can survive." This novel sets the foundation for Der Blitzkinder Academia, which Drago Worm will attend when she gets older. Excerpt from Chapter 8.1: For sooth, the distraught child howled fit to wake the damned. A heart wrenching glimmer of this was the first sound that Melantha Ryoko knowingly heard in her entire life. Before the woman was physiologically capable of any coherent thought, she felt the desperately hysterical youngster showering her exposed neck with hot kisses. After Drago Worm stopped kissing the back of Melantha's neck, Melantha cautiously sat up. As expected, Drago Worm's more severe burn scars were clearly visible. The 2 stared at each other. Then the hugging started. *** In this gloriously hideous & hideously glorious moment, their hearts of hearts were forever sealed as mother and child. Tears fell that day like hot rain onto parched and hallowed ground.
