The first thing he feels is guilt. Guilt for the fear he inspires, guilt for the alleged blood on his hands, guilt for his father and mother and sister, and guilt for L.

The second thing he feels is enlightened, impressed, and entertained. He can nearly see it in his minds eye, played out languidly and dreamily; him, plunging the blunt little knife into L's artery, the one right below his sharp, pale jaw, and L fighting back with everything he possibly has in him. Dark crimson trails down his neck, clavicle, sharp jutting bones, and pulsing sinew beneath paper thin skin. A reverie of the most violent and gruesome kind, pleasant and formless and without consequence.

In which Light comes to the inextricable conclusion from the ground up that he must be Kira, even without his memories, and resolves to fulfill his plan the way it should be done. With the added condition that he would like to keep L alive for as long as possible.
