How can she extend her life inside a graphic novel? One other extra character, "Bakey" (a reusable template with unlimited jobs), takes Mary underwing to show her the rules of existing in the shadows. But Mary has no wish to accept her fate: to be courted by the rakish Mr. Wickham, then disappearing from the story. When a mysterious man in a navy uniform appears, Mary King begins to hope that she might be able to change the fates of herself and all her friends.
