A fan fiction based off of Gary D. Schmidt's "Okay for now", follows the story of Brooklyn Thompsen, the daughter of one of Philadelphia's most wealthy and prominent families; after a party gone wrong in the summer of 1969, Brooklyn and her family find themselves in a tough situation with the press due to her actions. This situation leads the family to move temporarily to Marysville, a small town in Upstate New York, where they will not only be leaving the heat but make Brooklyn start working at her new job as a Junior High School secretary. There Brooklyn meets Lucas Swieteck, the Junior High School's Assistant Gym Coach- who becomes her work partner after an incident there too. While their relationship is chaotic and messy at first, with time they start to learn new things from each other, while they deal with their own personal issues; Brooklyn with Lawrence Emeri, the one whom she considers the love of her life and plans to marry; and Lucas with the sudden passing of his father and providing for his family. Through these issues, from PTSD, societal hardship, poverty, and the Vietnam War lingering throughout the air, they learn to connect with one another, and learn that maybe- just maybe- they had more in common than they thought.
