Young Alice DeRoss was lost in a dark street and came across "Nightmare" when he was eliminating people in a bar. After becoming the killer's apprentice, Alice believes Nightmare/Orpheus's job was to "free souls," and doesn't understand the real meaning of it.
Though protected by her ignorance, being in Alice's position was still quite dangerous due to being related to Nightmare's job. Being only a twelve-year-old doesn't stop her from getting attacked...
