He cornered me before I could lie again.

"A spy?" Ace murmured, stepping closer, silver hair falling into his eyes. "That's what he made you?"

My pulse stuttered. "Ace... I didn't want- "

"Then don't."

His fingers brushed my jaw, gentle where his reputation wasn't.

"Don't look scared of me, Lee. I'm the only one who'd take a bullet before I ever let them touch you."

I swallowed. "You're dangerous."

He smirked, slow and devastating.
"Then why do you keep running into the fire?"

Silence.

Close enough to feel the heat of him. Close enough to destroy everything I came here for.

Because the FBI calls him a monster.
But God help me -
he's the only place I've ever felt safe.

✧・゚: *✧・゚:*

Noelle Lee never thought she'd be used as bait.

Not by Christian Tim, the boy who once swore he'd keep her safe.
Not by the FBI, who now call her childhood best friend their prime suspect.

But then there's Ace Fernandez.

The boy with blood on his hands and softness in his eyes.
The one the world calls dangerous.
The one Christian wants her to bring down.

So they sent her to him.

To spy.
To gather intel.
To betray him.

Only... Ace isn't the monster they warned her about.
He's the one who steps between her and every danger.
The one who'd take a bullet rather than let her walk into a lion's den.
The one who still looks at her like he remembers the girl she used to be.

And somewhere between lies and loyalty,
between the mission and the memories,
Noelle realises the truth:

The FBI calls Ace a monster.
She calls him the only person who never left.

Now she must choose-
the hero who used her...
or the villain who'd die for her.

And whichever boy she chooses,
One of them will break.

PAUL I cheated on my fiancée. Sophie and I were building our future. In love, happy, peaceful. Then she found a lump in her breast and I made the worst choice: I numbed my fear by sleeping with someone else. My worst mistake and my biggest regret. Now I see Sophie around town with him. She's radiant and laughing with people who actually show up. I'm trying to learn how to be a man who does. If she lets me, I'll spend the rest of my life proving I can choose her when it's hardest. If she lets me... SOPHIE I thought the promise was in sickness and in health. But he buried his fear in someone else. On the same night, I walked into a bookstore and meet the gentle giant owner who invites me to his book club full of misfits. I'm laughing again, I smile more than I ever have, I heal my heart. My ex says he can learn to stay, but my bookstore owner keeps showing up like it's as easy as breathing. I don't know what the future holds; I don't know if I'll win this battle against cancer, but I do know I'm done wasting time on people that love only when it's easy. CALLUM She came in to Rivers & Rhodes Bookstore and asked for books with happy endings only. I gave her a recommendation, an invitation, and an offer of friendship. Now, this beautiful brave woman is completely under my skin. I'm not here to win a competition against him. I'm here because choosing someone, second by second, is the only way I understand love.
