Princess Rayne of Asgard awakens on her twentieth birthday with a sense of foreboding. To her father Odin, this day marks her transition into adulthood and the start of finding a suitable husband. Rayne, however, is reluctant to marry. Her heart feels an undeniable pull toward Loki, the brother she grew up alongside. Their bond has deepened over the years through shared magic and combat skills, yet both Rayne and Loki sense something beyond their sibling connection. The two keep a safe distance, only meeting under the guise of training or lessons. The rift between what they feel and what they are told becomes more apparent when Rayne is attacked in her chambers by a frost giant, sworn enemies of Asgard.

"Don't worry. I can feel it too.," A forced marriage. A sacrifice for her people. A war. And then there's Loki. The annoying, sarcastic, self-absorbed, opinionated, mischief-making, fallen prince of Asgard who seems to make his own history with the princess... "'Don't say that again.' Loki growled. He came closer while I backed away until I was nearly falling down the edge of the ship. He was menacing, his eyes burning with rage and his posture waiting for me to make a move, so he could attack. I only noticed his chest pressed heavily against mine when it was too late. His hands grabbed my hips tightly to prevent me from escaping and his breath mixed with mine."
