This story is set in the universe of the TV series 9-1-1 and follows the life of Alice Harrington - a 24-year-old war veteran who, after tragic events in Afghanistan, decides to start a new life as an LAPD officer. Her past, however, refuses to let her go - Alice carries both physical and emotional scars from the deaths of her friends and her beloved. Determined, courageous, and impulsive, with flawless combat and shooting skills, Alice is assigned to patrol with Athena Grant - an experienced officer who becomes her mentor and a mother figure. Their joint patrols through the brutal and unpredictable streets of Los Angeles put Harrington to the test on both professional and personal levels. Over time, Athena and her husband Bobby draw Alice into their circle of close friends at Firehouse 118. There, she befriends Buck, a relationship built on full trust, though strictly platonic. However, her most tense and complicated relationship develops with Eddie - initially marked by mutual reluctance, it evolves into a strong emotional bond, and his son Christopher becomes someone special to Alice. The book is my original work. I hold the copyright only to Alice and the characters from the academy; all other characters belong to the 9-1-1 series.

Loving Catalina was the easiest thing Eddie Diaz ever had to do. Almost losing her in a car accident became the immediate worst. Catalina loved her husband and son more than anything else in the world. They were all she had left. - Eddie shook his head, "I can't. What if she wakes up and I'm not here? If-" He took a deep breath as he placed his hand on his shoulder where he knew Catalina's forearm was. "If she could wake up once, she could again." His voice was quiet. Catalina hated seeing her husband like this. He had let his beard grow out and his hair was all messed up. He was letting himself go. "You can't be here for her, to support her, if you can't take care of yourself," Buck told him, hoping his words would get through to him. Eddie thought about it, holding his wife's still hand in his. "Don't do this to yourself, Eddie. Take care of yourself." Catalina said, hoping that'd he be able to hear her like those few other times. Sadly, he couldn't.
