Where The Skin Ends

Milli and Mona have been inseparable since childhood-two Black girls growing up in the ruins of a society run almost entirely by AI. The world around them is collapsing under extreme poverty, toxic air, and violent class division. While the wealthy hide in pristine, heavily protected districts, everyone else is left to survive however they can in the crumbling neighborhoods below.

Now young adults, Milli and Mona hustle to stay afloat, doing whatever it takes to care for Mona's mother, who's dying from a mysterious illness that's been spreading through the poor like wildfire. Underpaid and overlooked, they work for a ruthless boss who profits off their loyalty while feeding them scraps. But Milli is done playing small. She's crafted a plan to secure real money-enough to change their lives forever.

But the job she sets in motion uncovers something she was never meant to see-something dangerous, buried, and powerful enough to get them killed. Suddenly, the two girls are targets, forced to run with nothing but each other and the truth they weren't supposed to know.

As the world around them spirals into chaos, Milli and Mona learn that everything they thought they understood about their boss, their city, and the sickness killing their people is a lie. The future everyone fears has already begun-and now the girls must decide whether to fight back or watch the world burn around them.
