NCFF depicts the story of when the sky met the ground: long ago, when the rabid apocalypse dawned, the wealthy escaped to a spacecraft orbiting Earth whilst the rest of the world stayed back and either lived, or they died. During their time in space, these wealthy people began to develop a settlement, and they were comfortable for decades. Unfortunately, their supplies grew limited, so they needed to find a way back down to Earth. Meanwhile, survivors of the apocalypse also grew. They created homes from devastated cities. Built villages in the forests to keep themselves safe. All while studying the rabid and how they would prevent the end of the world. Archer finds himself becoming involved in both stories, whilst following his own at the same time. NCFF: Reborn focuses on the precursor to Archer's current situation; before he became Archer, and before the people in the sky crashed to the ground.

In a post-dystopian world ravaged by war, Claire and her younger brother Charlie live in one of the last remaining Northern American cities: Horizon, a place where the past is stifled and pills are used to control mental and physical defects. When a small rebellion deemed these pills and the government as a whole overly controlling, they staged an uprising and gained control, none of them possessing any knowledge on how to run a city. The result is anarchy, starvation, and death. Claire and Charlie live with their friend, Nik, in a small, teenage-populated community aptly named Rooftop for its location, and every day is a fight for survival. When Claire learns of an illegal lottery through which she and her brother could escape Horizon, however, she leaps at the chance and begins risking everything she has built for herself and her family to get to freedom.
