The Frequency of Our Hearts

Sixteen-year-old Mira and Rowan live in the same city-but their bodies produce deadly, incompatible bioelectrical frequencies. A rare genetic condition-Oppositional Resonance Disorder-means that when they come within 10 feet of each other, their heart rhythms destabilise, causing fainting, cardiac arrhythmia, and eventual system collapse.

Doctors say they can never meet in person.

Yet Mira and Rowan fall in love through:

adjacent hospital rooms,

late-night phone calls,

writing messages in the condensation on shared glass walls,

and hearing each other's footsteps in the hall.

But as their conditions worsen at sixteen, they choose to risk everything for one stolen moment. Their final request: hospital beds pushed as close together as safely possible on a freezing winter night.
