Erin Connors is twenty-three years old and officially dead.
Once The Ghoul, a shadow villain of the Red Ring, Erin fakes her death to escape a life of violence, control, and survival at any cost. Free from the system that forged her, she disappears into the cracks of the city - only to find something she never expected: choice.
For the first time, Erin fights not because she is ordered to, but because she wants to. Justice becomes something she gives, not something ignores. Recruited into the Phoenix Program, Erin steps into a fragile new role as a reformed hero walking the line between redemption and relapse.
But change is never simple, and reinvention is not the same as healing.
As Erin struggles to outrun her past, the truth refuses to stay buried. Old trauma, buried rage, and the shadows that answer her call all threaten to pull her back into darkness. At the same time, new connections begin to form: Invisigal, a peer who sees Erin as a rival and threat; Blonde Blazer, a mentor who watches her with hope and caution; and Robert, a quiet neighbor whose presence begins to feel dangerously familiar.
To become something more than what she was, Erin must face the truth she's been avoiding - not just about her past, but herself.
Can a monster choose to be a hero?
Or does the darkness always demand its due?
