"Destiny.  Something ethereal.  Something astonishing, shocking, and ineffable.  Something we can't regiment, I thought, not long ago.  I was so notoriously mistaken.  I'm Clarimond Marie, and I entirely, faithfully, and magnificently believe in destiny."

      Clarimond Marie is the zealous yet burdened princess of Ambrosina, the newly formed Scottish country.   But life is not always what one likes - Clarimond, being the effervescent 15 year old she is, is laden with never-ending duties to her family and country. Meanwhile, she must symbolize her country with a composure she cannot manage. Given her secretive and prodigious artistic skill, all she ever wanted was to be a painter. 
     One daring day, Clarimond breaks away to a nearby rural village.  At the end of the best day of her life,  she purchases her first paintbrush from a very different elderly man.
     Before long, Clarimond discovers, with terror and joy, the true use of the brush.  But will it bring her great fortune?  Or mortal peril?
