Moans and groans, emotionless moans and groans, were known as the call of the dead to Elsie "El" Jenkins. At the young age of 12, El had only known the feeling of loneliness as she survived on her own in the undead world. But when all hope was lost, a man came to her rescue and led her to a community called "Alexandria."

Just when she thought she was safe, a new group arrived in the community, and it seemed they brought a string of bad luck along with them. But bad luck wasn't the only thing they brought with them; they brought a boy. A boy that made El feel at home and not alone, something she hadn't felt in a long, long time since the undead rose.
