Five years after a group of elite trainers completed the first series of ZA Trials, they reunite when disturbances begin interfering with the new Lumiose systems-from transportation grids to energy channels tied to Zygarde Cells. To stabilize the region, Sycamore's Research Division launches the ZA Royale, a sanctioned tournament that ranks trainers based on performance, investigation skill, and their ability to maintain ecological balance. Reaching Rank A is required for any trainer participating in larger restoration missions.

When distortions begin forming inside newly restored Lumiose districts and the Zygarde network reacts unpredictably, the seven trainers must balance ZA Royale progression, research missions, and live environmental threats across Kalos. As the anomalies intensify, clues point to a rogue faction attempting to hijack redevelopment technology to control Zygarde's power.
