The Help No One Wanted

The surface world is dead-cities collapsed into ash, skies choked with dust, and something in the ruins that moves when no one is looking. Humanity hides underground, safe only as long as the monsters above remain a rumor. Only the Marines climb into the wasteland, armored in rust-colored suits and armed with weapons designed for things no one will name.

Sethron, a Marine with serpent-cold eyes and medals that read more like warnings than honors, is given a new batch of recruits. They arrive hopeful, trembling, unaware. Under Sethron's command-and Brutrix's hollow, smiling assistance-they'll be stripped down to bone and rebuilt into soldiers whether they survive the process or not. The barracks whisper at night. Shadows linger too long. And some recruits swear something is crawling inside the walls.

Because the surface isn't empty. It's watching. Changing. Hungry. And as Sethron's recruits begin to disappear, one by one, they'll learn the truth buried deeper than the tunnels: the real danger isn't what waits above... it's what has already gotten in.
