This is a common stereotype, the empress is a cold and calculating woman, both beautiful and regal. But is she? If she cared so much, why didn't she abolish slavery? Why didn't she make laws protecting children and families that were broken by the nobles that worship where she stands purely because her parents were of real status.
Per usual - there is a slave who gets taken in by the emperor and suddenly all the problems are their fault. Why? Perhaps because they are dirty blooded and they are not of much importance - not like the express. Who had her heart seemingly broken when she didn't even seem to love the other, only sticking around because you loved each other as children. That's a pity.
What if the slave wasn't short minded, what if this was planned. Even if everyone knew who they were, knew that they were a villain by survival and not by choice. What if they never tried to come off as sweet or unassuming - how would the world react if they didn't try to hide their angry approach to the world? Oh - and Rashta? She wouldn't be coming back. She won't even exist. But her sacrifice won't be for not.
