Damon Amir Ward was born with a silver spoon and blood on the handle.

On paper, he's the impeccably groomed CEO of Ward Global Holdings, the man whose family name is engraved on half the buildings in the city. In reality, the Ward legacy is stitched together with favors, threats, and deals made in the shadows. Damon has spent his life balancing two worlds: the polished boardrooms that worship his last name and the quiet mob empire that demands his loyalty.

Soleil Imani Leveaux wants nothing to do with men like him.

She's the warm light at the center of The Cellar, an underground speakeasy hidden beneath one of the Ward family's oldest estates. By night she mixes drinks, reads people like tarot, and paints scenes in her head she'll never have time to put on canvas. By day she's hustling rent, dodging her mother's past, and promising herself she'll never fall for power dressed in a suit.

When Damon walks into The Cellar to inspect his investment and fires a bartender on the spot, Soleil steps in front of him and tells him exactly what she thinks.

No one talks to Damon Ward like that.
No one looks at Soleil Leveaux the way he does.

From that moment, their lives twist around each other-two opposites orbiting the same slow-burning fire. He's cold control and silent danger; she's messy emotion and honest heat. He shouldn't want the girl who questions everything he is. She shouldn't crave the man whose family may be the reason her own lost everything.

As secrets rise from the past, Damon and Soleil have to decide what weighs more: the history written in their bloodlines or the future they can feel every time their eyes meet across the bar.

In a city where legacies are built on lies and love can get you killed, some connections burn too bright to walk away from.

Sometimes the ones who shouldn't fit
...are the only ones who do.

"Curiosity killed the kitty Miss Adams." My body stiffened. Slowly I turned around just to see Mr. Parker standing in front of me with hands in his trouser pockets. I bit my lip. I thought he would be angry but when I looked at him. His face showed no emotion. He then started walking towards me I moved back. This continued until my back hit the door. Then he placed his one hand on my side, leaning forward, close to me. "What was rule number three Miss Adams." His face was extremely close to mine my breath got hitched. I couldn't answer his question why? Because I was more focused in the distance between us. "I asked you something Miss Adams." He said again. "T-That t-there a-are prohibited areas i-in the house where I shouldn't g-go." "It seems like you remember the rules. This room is one of those prohibited areas. So, from next time think before you put yourself into trouble." I just stared at his eyes. I was lost in those pair of sea-coloured eyes. No other guy has ever affected me this much as Mr. Parker. I get nervous around him. I don't know what this feeling is but this feeling is different. A feeling that I have never felt for anyone. "Understood?" he said again. I nodded. Vampire's Pet by cannoness
88 parts Complete Mature
The world had gone to hell long ago, taken over by the vampire race. In order to keep some sort of peace in our land, the Vampire Lords made a consecutive agreement. The rich and powerful humans could survive just as they had been, untouched by the vampires save for the occasional blood collections, or so they thought In reality, we were all under their control. Castles spread out throughout our land, one landing in each city. Each castle varied in the number of vampires residing there, but all of them carried a Lord. The Lords were the ones in charge in every city, whether we liked it or not. The vampires often roam through the city, making sure that everyone was in order and no one stepped out of line. If you stepped out of line, you died, end of story. Even if the rich were still under their control, their lives were still better than the poor. The poorest lives held a much worse fate. The men were to be put to work as slaves, whether that meant serving a specific vampire, or just building their castles, they were slaves. The women were to be pets. Pets were the lowest rank you could have. They were forced into cages that were too small to stand in with collars around their necks. They spent their lives in pet shops, just waiting for the dreadful day that they'll be bought. They were treated like animals, trained into what their master wanted, and punished if they misbehaved. Those who were lucky enough to live through that, we're to be slaughtered for their blood at age twenty-five in an act to make sure that our population would stay steady. I was born into this world. Born into this world full of blood-sucking monsters. Except, I was one of the lucky ones. Was. It all ended for me when I was 12, when I was taken away from the last bit of hope and family that I had left. Ever since then, I've lived in a cage, just rotting away, waiting, dreading for the day that some monster would make me his. This is my life. I am a pet. ~~~ Cover by: @mshacake
