Maud O'Bride is just an ordinary girl from Dublin: hot-headed, rule-averse, and sporting a chronic conjunctivitis in her right eye.

From there, her life takes a mythical turn: rescued by an improbable heir of Lugh, she discovers the existence of underground cities and paths where manifestations of ancient deities train and battle, just like in the old tales.
She soon learns she is the manifestation of Balor the Evil Eye, King of the Fomorians-whose awakening threatens to bring about a new Mag Tuired.
Hunted by the Tuatha Dé Danann, she must uncover who is truly behind the return of the Evil Eye and prevent the Fomorians from waging war on the other peoples of the Emerald Isle once again.
