Trishalini's heart raced with a happiness she hadn't felt in years. Tomorrow marked is their first anniversary, after week her husband was finally returning from his business trip. She had planned the biggest surprise for him.
The faint rumble of a car engine outside made her pulse skip. She darted down the stairs. And then she saw him.

He moved toward her in long strides, each step a silent storm. He stopped in front of her, towering, radiating danger. Her smile faltered slightly under the weight of his gaze.
"Kri..." she began, voice trembling.
"Shut up!"
The shout cut through her, harsh and cold, making her flinch. His hand reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a folded sheet of paper, tossing it.
Confused, she picked it up. Her fingers shook as she unfolded it. Her eyes widened in disbelief.
Thier contract.
"Our contract is over. Hereafter, I don't want to see your face. Get out of my life." His voice was low. He turned away, the weight of his anger palpable.
Trishalini staggered backward, heart thundering, lips trembling. "Why?" she begged. "Tell me-- what did I do?"
He spun around, fury blazing in his eyes, and pushed her. She fell hard, hitting the floor with a sickening thud. sharp pain spread across her skin as blood trickled from her.
He didn't look back. He disappeared into his room, leaving her collapsed, broken, and gasping on the floor.
In a moment of rage, in a storm of misunderstanding, he had severed the only thread of his family he still had.
