Years after a devastating decline in the economy that cost thousands of people their lives and led to The Great Divide, the gates are opening for the annual showing, where the committee will choose one person to join them and help with the rebuild.

14 year old Zya is a painter and her works display a darker side of humanity in a light that makes it mesmerizing. When she's looked at as a potential candidate, she's forced to have to leave her dying mother and five younger siblings behind, and navigating this new life alone will be anything but easy. And what happens when Zya realizes that the grass isn't greener on the other side.

Nolan, the man who voted for Zyaknows that those gates will never be opened again; the cycle of recovery is over and all that's left is maintaining and progressing, but what will happen if the girl he's fought so hard to bring over finds out the truth and starts rebelling, threatening to undo what they've worked so hard to achieve.
