The Scales We Earn

Silas joins a summer field trip to Zimbabwe to visit a mermaid protection center, where he encounters mermaids and mermen who can take human form. After a shocking attack, he finds comfort in one of the mermen, and a deep romantic and physical bond develops, including a transformative connection that allows him to eventually become a mermaid himself. As he participates in a festival that celebrates the mermen's return to their homeland, Silas undergoes his first painful transformation, supported by his partners, and embraces his new life. Taken to the mermen's royal homeland, he becomes the third partner of a royal pair seeking a human mate, and the story follows Silas as he settles into this new world, culminating in his first child and the continuation of their intimate and bonded family life.
