Feelings were complex. Uncontrollable.

Atomic even.

No one could confidently say they would know when they would feel what emotion. The best they could do was to not let them cloud their judgement in the moment they did arise.

So decisions wouldn't be made through them.

They had to actively fight off the instinctual need to follow what their hearts said because not everything whispered by it was good for everyone.

His heart was screaming at him to intervene. To stop her from marrying him.

But what did his heart know? All it knew was how to traitorously hold onto pain. To torture itself with the idea of something that would never happen.

To foolishly clutch at unrequited love and hope for affections it would never receive.

As the fifteenth anniversary of his childish crush on his best friend's twin sister approached as quickly as the crush had snapped into place when he had met her all those years ago. He had to make a choice.

Get his act together and the affairs of his heart under control to finally be at peace or prepare to endure through the pain of watching her marry someone else.

Because her wedding was approaching just as quickly. Not giving his heart enough time to let go of something that it had stubbornly held for far too long.
