Desire and Dilemma

The future I was building with my own hands cracked the day I learned what rejection feels like.
I was ambitious. Grounded. Certain - until I fell for someone who never meant to catch me.

He was my first obsession. My first lesson in silence.
When I finally confessed, he walked away.
And even after he did, my feelings stayed - heavy, consuming, difficult to unlearn.

It took a year, and the unwavering strength of my friends, to pull myself out of it.
I rebuilt. I healed. I believed I was done.

I was wrong.

At an inter-college event, I met someone who met me with guarded eyes and cold assumptions. Sharp words. Tension I didn't ask for. He judged me before knowing me, and I didn't care enough to correct him. We existed on opposite sides - resistant, distant, unchanged.

Or so I thought.

Somewhere between forced proximity and unspoken moments, my focus shifted toward the one person who seemed entirely unmoved by me. The one who challenged me. The one I never planned to feel for.

And just as I began to lower my guard -
the past returned.

Not as a memory, but as a presence woven into my everyday life. Living too close. Watching too closely. Existing where healing was supposed to begin.

The truth was cruel: they were best friends.

Everything I had buried rushed back - the obsession, the fear, the unfinished ache. My breath shortened. My hands shook. Panic found its way back into my chest.

My friends try to hold me together, but I am slipping - caught between a past that refuses to stay behind and a present that demands more than I'm sure I can give.

This isn't a story about choosing between two men.
It's about surviving the return of what once broke me -
and deciding whether I'm strong enough to love without losing myself again.
