"You lived two decades with nothing but your spine holding you up. The way light does not care if shadows follow. You do not have to be wanted - to prove you are real." - anon
From a dim perspective of the world viewed from the edges, Amara had always felt that her existence was barely acknowledged. Her words, echoed like shadows, as her unspoken grief becomes her quiet cycle. As the daughter who never asked for much, never caused any trouble, and almost never demanded anything - her family does not question her pain, but also never named it.
And so...she shrinks.
Her world became a quiet echoes of her own shadows wanting to be heard. She thinks of herself as nothing, and begins to believe that perhaps being unnoticed is all that she deserves.
But beyond the lens of her eyes, a subtle sign opposes. A young, academically inclined freshman, who seems to know exactly where he stands in the world, will prove her wrong. He notices Amara when no one else does, he held her gentle hand and pulled her from the shadows, but Amara's internal world prevailed.
She sees him as the winner, and viewed herself as the loser who stands behind his success. She lost to her own fear, and grieved a future she never allowed herself to live. Amara learned that her most painful loss was not when she felt unseen, but it was when she slowly realized the slow abandonment of her own self.
And at her lowest point, even Jeriah was never allowed to see her fully, even though all she wanted in the world was to be real.
