The police officer pointed at the child in his lap, "And what about this boy you picked up, he was part of the lucky lottery?"

"He is the reason we got those thugs. This little fellow had the sense to block the road! And he has a name, Luffy"

"What about his parents?"

"He is an urchin, while I was intero-" Shanks smiled, "I mean, defending myself against those miscreants, I learned this."

"And what are you going to do about him after you are done with the Doctor's visit? We can't keep him in the station. Some of Bluejam's members are still out there, so we can't risk him being in the children's shelter, as it's overcrowded and security is lax. He is an eyewitness, after all."

"He can stay with me for the time being. I have extra space."

One day, Shanks found little Luffy hiding behind a bush in an abandoned bus stand. What felt like an impulsive decision born of kindness; offering the child a temporary roof, became a lifelong commitment to fatherhood.
