The story takes place in Greenland, sometime around Christmas.

It is about a desperate salesman, called Erik Jakobsen, who is in debt and in a deep financial crisis, who hires two shady characters, an American and a Swede, to stage the kidnapping of his wife in order to extort and divide ransom money for her from Erik's rich, but hopelessly greedy farther in law.

However, a blizzard and a series of poor choices lead the kidnappers to mess up and the entire original plan to go horribly wrong and to a series of new trials and dangers. As the plan spirals out of control, the characters find themselves caught in a dangerous web of greed, betrayal, and unforeseen consequences.?
