In the cold silence between stars, one man dies and is reborn.

When astronaut Cecial's ship fractures in the dark, he becomes the lone survivor of a tragedy. Drifting through the endless void, he carries a grief so heavy that the cosmos itself takes notice. A vast, ancient deity answers - amused, curious - and twists his sorrow into a new form. Cecial returns to Earth not as a man, but as a creature shaped by collapse, carrying a black hole where a heart should be.

On earth, a boy grows up in the wake of the same tragedy. Kit, son of a lost crew member, spends his childhood chasing fragments of truth. His mother's last voicemail - a trembling plea spoken moments before her death - names only one culprit: Cecial.

Now seventeen, Kit follows the invisible thread that has always pulled him toward the man who destroyed his family. Cecial feels it too - a new gravity rising, one that threatens the empire built from his sorrow.
