PROLOGUE

Hindi kailanman inakala ni Jazz na darating ang araw na hahawakan niya ang malamig na bakal ng posas-at ang lalaking naglagay nito sa kanyang mga pulso ay walang iba kundi Tyrone, ang taong pinakaminahal at pinagkatiwalaan niya.

Gabi iyon na parang eksena sa isang K-drama: ulan, sirena, kumikislap na pulang ilaw.
At sa gitna ng kaguluhan, isang tanong ang paulit-ulit na kumakatok sa utak ni Jazz:

"Bakit... ikaw?"

Hindi siya lumaban. Hindi siya tumakbo. Tumitig lang siya kay Tyrone-mga matang dati'y puno ng lambing, ngayon ay nagkukubli ng isang lihim.
Isang condition na hindi niya masabi. Isang utang na loob. Isang pangakong hindi mabali.
At kahit gaano kahirap, tinupad niya iyon... kapalit man ng taong mahal niya.

Dahil sa maling paratang, tuluyang dinala si Jazz sa kulungan.
Wala siyang kasalanan.
Pero ang papel, ang ebidensya, at ang mismong testimonya ni Tyrone... sapat para ipako siya sa krus ng hustisyang bulag.

Nahatulan siya ng 6-10 years, ngunit nabigyan ng parole kaya 5 years lang siyang nakakulong.
Limang taon sa likod ng rehas.
Limang taon na puro tanong, walang sagot.
Limang taon na ang tanging iniisip niya ay ang paraan ng pagtawa ni Tyrone... at kung bakit nagawa nitong itulak siya papunta sa impyerno.

Ang pinakamasakit?
Hindi ang selda.
Hindi ang mga araw na hindi siya makatulog.
Hindi ang mga gabing pilit niyang kinakalma ang pusong umiiyak.

Kundi ang katotohanang ang taong mahal niya ang mismong dahilan ng pagkakakulong niya-kahit alam nitong wala siyang kasalanan.

Paglabas ni Jazz, bitbit niya ang isang pangako:
Hahanapin niya ang katotohanan.
At kung ang katotohanan ay si Tyrone pa rin...
hindi niya alam kung iyon ba ang magpapagaling sa kanya-o tuluyang sisira sa puso niyang limang taon nang wasak.
