Two years had passed since the war ended. Sirius was dead. Tonks was dead. Even Teddy - his sweet little boy - was dead. They were all dead. Again. But Remus was alive and alone. Again. History had repeated itself.

Genevieve McCarthy was lonely too, or almost. She had a two-year-old daughter, Catherine, or as she preferred to call her, Kate, who had been born three months after the Battle of Hogwarts. Her husband, the most important man in her life, had died in that battle, leaving her alone and pregnant.

Well, now she wasn't just lonely. She was also terminally ill. And soon within the next few, maybe a dozen, months, she would be leaving her daughter alone.

This isn't the love story you're expecting. Seriously, I mean it. There's no enemies-to-lovers, friends-to-lovers, or whatever you've got going on in your head. This is a love story, but Remus and Genevieve aren't lovers. That's not the point of this fanfiction.

You'll find comfort here, you'll laugh and smile with the characters, but you'll also cry like hell. And that's all because it's a story about Remus Lupin.

When you read this story, you'll see Remus through my eyes, because it's built on my own image of this character. Don't get me wrong, I love Moony, but his character was never meant to live happily ever after. If you don't believe me, go back to the original series, and we can talk after that.
