Brilliant, observant, and dangerously lucid, he has learned to read people as if they were mechanisms: emotions, fears, and weaknesses become components of a perfectly predictable system. While the other orphans fear the future, Jonathan understands something far worse-the institution that shaped them does not seek to save them, but to manufacture them.

When a series of inexplicable resignations, distorted surveillance footage, and eruptions of violence shake the orphanage, order begins to fracture. No one knows who is lying, who is betraying whom, or what is real. Amid panic and suspicion, authority loses control and the children disappear one by one.

But nothing has been an accident.
