Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, son of Stoick the Vast, Chief of Berk, faces a defining test: kill a dragon and become a warrior. But he can't. Fleeing to the frozen far north alongside Toothless, his Night Fury, Hiccup crosses paths with Bjorn-a battle-worn old man whose haunting past is carved into his eyes, and whose three golden earrings echo an ancient prophecy. Bjorn, too, is a man running from his shadows.

In this harsh exile, Hiccup builds a new family: Ragnar, the silent, wise strategist; Erik, the impulsive youth whose deepest wounds aren't the ones you can see; and Alda, a girl who escaped the slave trade, though her past remains a heavy chain. Together, they become the "Shadows of the Night Fury"-masked vigilantes breaking the chains of dragons and slaves alike, defying the ruthless wrath of Drago Bludvist, the most feared dragon hunter in the Archipelago.

But as they fight to save others, a dark spectre draws near: Iivar. The ghost of Bjorn's past, a brother turned killer, and a man obsessed with proving that mercy is nothing more than a noose we tie around our own necks. In a brutal clash that promises only bodies and shattered memories, Hiccup must learn that some scars never heal-and some losses alter us forever.
