The journey that stayed

The bell above the shop door rang softly.

I looked up. "You came."

He nodded. "Like we said."

I leaned on the counter. "So... what do you want from my shop?"

He looked at me for a moment, and without realizing, said, "You."

I blinked. "Excuse me?"

His eyes widened, and he quickly shook his head. "I-no, I meant... a book. Something light."

I smiled faintly, turning toward the shelves. "Any preference?"

"Something calm... peaceful," he said, finally meeting my eyes. "Like this place."

I nodded, pretending my heartbeat wasn't racing.
