Candidate of Humanity

Zabrina Lova had come to expect many things from studying the fauna of the foreign planet Hydra. Adopting a specimen was not one of them -- much less growing them. On one fateful day, the past and present collide, Zabrina standing right at the center of the blast zone. When the dust clears, a new species manifests; the Ginfu, toddler-sized creatures. After only one generation, they were able to withstand the coldest winters, the hottest summers, and the might of the modern US military. Nothing, phenomena or human-made, could stop her now.

Yet, as with everything, it came with a price. If these hivemind creatures followed her will, then there was only one possibility: she was a queen. If she was a queen, then she must be a mutant. Should anyone discover her new biology, the punishment would be public execution. Even worse, she'd lose everything she'd worked for -- her reputation, life savings, even the very research she put her life in. In a world devouring all news on fantastical creatures suited for combat though, perhaps the Ginfu were the break she needed.

Plus, she was never one to back down from a challenge. Zabrina is determined to make her place in the world by any means necessary. If she had to use the Ginfu to ravage the natural environment to field test their capabilities, then so be it. Both the new and old world would open up before the power of capitalism, a mad inventor's might, and hired minions. Yet, would she ever be fulfilled?

Would it ever be enough?
