Book three in the Gifted Trilogy. Justin Reynolds lives a seemingly perfect life on the outside, but on the inside there is much rejection from his mother and father. The only person who understands what he goes through is his older sister, Kaylee. When Justin takes it in his head to leave, Kaylee can only leave him to his plans. She doesn't know what he wants to do, but knows he can probably handle it. After Justin has finally made all the arrangements he can, he leaves his home in Northern New Jersey and begins his trek to the south. Along the way he encounters two girls who change his way of thinking, and together they form a bond like no other, knowing that they need each other to survive. As they journey down into Kentucky, they have all discovered that God has a plan for them, and they are no longer ignorant of the gifts they have. The only problem they will face, is the Ventriloquist when he finally shows himself.

"I can't write like this," I pointed out. "Is this all you care about?" Ryan asked. I shrugged. "Not this specifically, but yeah, I care about my grades." Ryan smirked. I swallowed nervously but refused to break my stoic expression. He leaned closer to me, my heart pounding so hard against my chest it felt like it might break out and fall on the table between us. His mouth was right by my ear, and I could feel his warm breath when he spoke which sent shivers down my spine. "Well, aren't you a little a scholar?" *** The only things Alex Moris ever cared about were his grades and his sister. However, when the boy his sister likes, Ryan Smithe, makes things complicated and causes him to feel things he's never felt before, Alex realizes that, maybe, there's more important things in life than grades and scholarships.
